Three in one: FOTD, Qianyu Palette Review and New hair

As the title suggests, this post features three topics. Shortcut? Maybe

Let us begin with this palette I received from my friend Leola. She requested a review. Firstly I would not call myself a “Makeup snob” although i have snobbed some items in the past. So if it was up to me i may not have picked up this palette. It’s called Qianyu and this one is the No. 04, made in China. What captivated me were the vibrant metallic shades. Boy was i curious to see if pigmentation matched the appearance.

Doesn’t look like much, but after swatching, i was so pleasantly surprised by the colour payoff, i couldn't wait to try these on my eyes.

Now the best thing about this palette is the price, at TT$11.95 how can you go wrong?

Colours used:

The review

Pros:

1. Insanely cheap TT$11.95 available at your friendly neighbourhood Pennywise Cosmetics. Great choice if you’re on a budget.

2. Insanely pigmented! Immense colour pay-off.

3. The variety of shades – light to dark – is not too shabby.

4. Easy to blend. Especially the darker colours. Creamy consistency.

Cons:

1. Considerable amount of fall out. I suggest you apply your eye shadow before foundation or create a barrier under eyes with a loose powder.

2. Must, MUST apply a primer before applying. UDPP or Two Faced Eye Shadow Insurance, pretty much any good quality primer. These will crease!

3. Sticky base should be used to minimize fall out like the Jumbo Pencils. (I used Arlene Villarule’s Amplified.

4. Makeup snobs may not buy this because hey it’s cheap and who made it anyway??

5. They literally stain! Make sure you have a very good makeup remover.

Final thoughts:

I personally love these. Like most eye shadows, a good primer/base is the key to longer lasting wear without too much fading/creasing. If everyone can buy Wet n Wild palettes, these babies deserve a try. I am definitely getting the other palettes. Love it!

Limited Edition Black Opal Lipstick Palettes

Firstly Happy New Year to all my followers! Thanks for staying ;-)

One of my friends introduced me to these palettes, and i wasted no time in getting them myself. These compact, sleek Lipstick Palettes certainly won me over.

I got the chance to put it to the test on myself and a few clients, and i must say i am pleased with these buys. Check it out!

Each palette retails for US$20 on the Black Opal website.

The Palettes

Tutti Frutti is chocked full of plums and wine colors, there is also a hot orange. The lipsticks featured are Black Currant, Ebony Wine, Wine Not, Fantasia Plum, Rich Red, Heat Wave, Tropica and Spiced Rum.

The Razzle Dazzle palettes are a collection of gorgeous nudes which include So Natural, Bon Bon, Gold Rush, Burnished Bronze, Copper Kiss, Cocoa Cougar, Platinum Quartz and Pink Champagne.

My thoughts:

I liked these because of the size of the palette, it’s not heavy at all and the amount of the product in each pan was a pleasant surprise. The mirror is HUGE, can’t go wrong with that!

I wanted some lipstick palettes for some time now for my makeup kit and these fit the bill perfectly. The nudes are a dream for the “naturalista” and perfect for brides and the plums well, they are for the divas (like me!) The lipsticks themselves are creamy and do not dry out the lips. I will still suggest that you apply a lip balm prior to applying the colors for added moisture. These lipsticks are all wearable individually or can be mixed for some added drama. I paired the nudes with some lipgloss as well.

These beauties retail at Pennywise Cosmetics for TT$113.00 per palette. A great buy if you ask me.

Heyyyyy!!! Oh my gosh it's been so long, too long. Thanks for sticking with me, i love you all!! Ok so this post is going to be a review and fotd in one :), no it's not a short cut... it's just long overdue. I'll be reviewing Maybelline's Volum' Express Falsies Waterproof Mascara. This has been review a million times by every beauty blogger, but i wanted to let you know what I thought about it.

This is what Maybelline says:

False lash glam, instantly!
• Patented Spoon Brush fans out lashes from corner-to-corner, while our Pro-Keratin formula instantly builds volume without clumping
• Unique flexible wand helps to lift and separate lashes to provide the look of 300% more visible, fuller lashes, no gaps from any angle
• Contact lens safe and ophthalmologist-tested
• Waterproof, also available in Washable formula

Sounds magical doesn't it? Most of the reviews for this mascara was positive and i do understand why. But do i love it? Take a look...

Pros:
1. They didn't lie about this mascara being waterproof!

2. The long "spoon" shaped wand ensures every single lash gets the product.

3. This is a dream for persons with long lashes, after applying your lashes will indeed look false.

Cons:

1. While i thought it was made for ladies with long lashes, i didn't think it worked well for short lashes.

2. This could have been because of the flexible brush. I prefer it sturdy than you. :)

3. If you like your mascara to wash off immediately, DO NOT buy the waterproof mascara.

Overall Rating: 3 out of 5
I think overall it is a great product, i however didn't like this particular mascara very much. I am in no way giving up on the Volum' Express Falsies, I mean. 13 more to choose from :)

Hey all!! I;m so happy to be here again! Been going through some stuff that just prevented me from executing like i promised i would. I am soooo thrilled to see that even though i haven't been around much lately, I've managed to get more followers! Thanks so much you guys/gals! My gorgeous client wanted a look to compliment her burnt orange dress, so i took the opportunity to use my Inglot and Sugarpill palettes, also a bit of Goldilux. :)

For this client i used the 120 palette, the purple from Burning Heart (Sugarpill) and my new Wet n Wild palettes (Sweet as Candy and Cool as a Cucumber)

I also did this look for her birthday. I used my Urban Decay palette as well as Inglot.

Review: Mary Kay Timewise Matte-wear Liquid Foundation

I had these for a while, but really wanted to put it to the test before reviewing it. I always wondered about Mary Kay products so when I found out one of my friends was becoming an official Mary Kay rep, I immediately ordered some foundation. There are different types of foundations on the website, but I wanted one that was geared towards medium to full coverage.

The Timewise Matte-Wear foundation is described as:

Combination to oily skin. Buildable coverage. Suitable for sensitive skin. Oil free. Non-comedogenic.

I purchased a few for my makeup kit, but i also wanted to try out one for myself. I tested the shades closest to my skin tone and in my opinion one is too light (Bronze 4), and the other one (Bronze 7) is a little too dark. I may order Bronze 5 or 6, hoping to test them first. Check out some pics:

Pros:

A little goes a long way. If a little coverage is needed, a pea-sized amount will be enough.
The formula is indeed buildable. If more coverage is needed, like for my face, a little more can be added. The amount shown above covered the entire side of my face.
The formula dries almost instantly.
It is indeed matte. But not drying.
It does not feel heavy or “cakey” on the skin.
A great alternative for those that want to try a very good foundation without having to spend more on higher end products like MAC.

Cons:

Not sold in regular cosmetic stores.
Drying almost instantly is what i consider a pro, but it can also be a con if it is not blended into the skin fast enough.
It may be considered as expensive for someone now building their makeup kit at TT$180.00 for one.

New Glamour Doll Eyes Collection

Hey sweets! So I haven't used any GDE products (yet), but i wanted to let you all know that she's launching a new e/s collection called Super Shadows.

There are 10 shadows in this collection and it is in collaboration with Julia (missjbm22). This collection will only be available from tomorrow 21st May 2011. And based on the descriptions provided, I am going to purchase a few:

-- Ancestry is a satin white with rich silk gold undertones and sparkle.
-- Bird? Plane? is a bright blue with yellow and golden sparkles throughout.
-- Cajun is a medium to bright pink with orange and gold sparkle and sheen.
-- Feline Fatale is a bright purple with subtle black undertones.
-- Light Speed is a medium orange with gold and red sparkle.
-- Mighty Maiden is a light sky blue with subtle gold and silver sparkle.
-- Recruit is a rich teal with silver sparkles throughout.
-- Schizophrenic is chartreuse green with subtle purple shimmer.
-- Spider-Sense is a medium to dark red with blue sparkle.
-- Vigilante is a darkened blue with black undertones and a silver sparkle throughout.

Inglot Palette Review

Hey lovelies! Gosh I've missed you guys/gals! I know I've been MIA for so long, but guess what..I've finally bought my camera!! Yayyyy! Decided to get the Canon SD1400 IS, so far so good. I’m still playing around and learning all the features. So the plan is to now upgrade my blog, and give you guys much better quality pics, vids and reviews… so without any further ado, let me tell you about my Inglot Palette.

Much thanks to my girl Chatty Patty who gives me the hook-up every time i want a hard to get item. She recently sent me a five-pan customized palette. It’s called the Freedom System, where you purchase the palette and choose eye shadows to fill in.

First thoughts:

When i saw the palette, i thought it was sooo sexy! The packaging is sleek and everything is magnetized. The cover (which is glass) and each individual pan has a magnet, so you can change around the colours. I had to remove one of them to get the name and damaged it in the process. So it may be easy to remove but still be careful. The palette itself is a bit heavy, but i seriously don't mind that.

The eyeshadows:

Like most brands, Inglot has different textures of eyeshadows in pressed and loose. The pressed shadows I have are:

DS 474 – A shiny true yellow with gold reflects

AMC 50 – A shiny orange reddish with gold reflects

DS 504 – A brilliant teal with silver reflects

AMC 73 – A shiny medium purple with silver reflects

AMC 63 – A matte black

Inglot doesn’t have names for their eyeshadows.

The texture is impressive, smooth and very “blendable” with minimal fallout! I understand why the YouTube/blogger gurus are saying that Inglot can rival MAC. The color payoff is awesome even without using a base. But i suggest you use one to get the real beauty of these colours. I would love to add some more of these to my collection, but it isn't cheap On the Inglot website, a single eyeshadow retails for US$12.00 and the palette is a cost by itself. It is however still a bit cheaper than MAC. Worth a try in my opinion.

Final thoughts:

This has easily become one of my (many) favourite go-to palettes. The colours are easy to apply and blend. And once used with a good primer and base, it lasts a long time and the colours remain true. I have found that if applied without a base, even though still pigmented it fades after a while. The most pigmented from this palette are the black and teal. But i am in love with all of them.

Sugarpill Chromalusts–Review and FOTD

Hey lovelies. This post is long overdue, but better late than never right? I decided to do a video review for these (my very first) so please feel free to check it out below.

The chromalusts featured are:

Magpie
Stella
Goldilux
Lumi

My descriptions for these are:

Lumi – A fine silky white loose eye shadow with teal and blue reflects. When applied it looks like a high sheen teal eye shadow.

Magpie – A very dark blue with pink sparkles. The sparkles really pop when applied wet.

Stella – A rich pigmented black with colourful sparkles. What i love about this pigment, even when i applied dry with a base, the sparkles stay in place rather than fall out leaving the black behind. But to really see the beauty of this, apply with a damp brush.

Goldilux – A high shine gold pigment. True gold! Don’t know how else to describe it. It is super pigmented, so it can both be applied dry or wet. If you want a really high impact shine, apply wet.

Products I'm currently loving and the ones i want to throw away

Hey guys and gals! I want to share with you some products (makeup, skin, hair etc.) that I'm using and really loving at the moment, and the ones i wish i didn't purchase in the first place. It's not a review, but i will tell you why i like/hate the product. Let's begin with my favourites...

Sleek I Divine Chaos Palette - The colors are amazingly pigmented and easy to apply. A little goes a long way. Best used with a base prior to application. This is one of the two all matte palettes i own.

Sacha Cosmetics Blushes in Shameless Cinnamon and Party Glow - I love all Sacha Cosmetics Blushes but i find myself reaching for these two the most. Pigmentation is awesome and i just love them!!

Sugarpill Burning Heart Palette - I absolutely love the red (Love+) and the purple (Poison Plum) in this palette, the other colors are nice as well, but these are my favs! All eye shadows are matte.

Sugarpill Chromalust in Goldilux - By far the most gorgeous gold pigment i have ever used to date. It's best applied wet.

Maybelline Eye Studio Creamy Gel Liner

Love this liner. I apply it with a Sonia Kashuk bent liner brush (which i also LOVE). It is so creamy and easy to apply and it lasts all day without flaking or moving.

Clean & Clear Morning Burst Shine Control Facial Cleanser

I love the way my skin feels after using this wash. It's not too harsh like a scrub, but it definitely does the job.

Bath and Body Works Signature Collection Japanese Cherry Blossom Sensual Shimmer Body Mist
I love the clean subtle smell of this body spray, and the shimmery sparkles that stay on after spraying doesn't hurt either. :-)

Tresemme Tres Mousse - Tres Extra Hold Mousse Firm Control
I have natural hair (well it's colored) so to keep those curls, i am using this mousse. So far i love it. It's not sticky at all neither overly oily. I like that it holds the style for a long period without frizzing out my hair.

Ok, so now here are the products that i wasted my money on:

The first one is the Beauty Treats Liquid Liner. I don't like the very thin brush, and i had to apply the line about three times to get a good solid line. After about an hour or so, it began to flake and fall out. No bueno.

I know some bloggers raved about the NYX Cream Glitter Palette, but i honestly do not like it. I found that it went on very light, and i had to really dig into in and put a good amount on my lid for any effect. Even using loose glitter was a pain to apply over it.

La Splash Pigments (Merlin and Black Sea)

While i might love their glitters, i really do not like their "mineral pigments". The texture reminds me of fine dirt. And it is hard to blend. I found that these colors in particular just looked messy. And the glitter in Black Sea disappears after you've applied and blended it.

Carnival is over.....back to life

We've waited months and months for just 2 days, and now that it's over, some people are not ready to accept that Carnival 2011 is a thing of the past.

What does it mean for me? Well firstly, no more Carnival makeup tutorials which I'm going to miss doing by the way. But on the plus side, i have new makeup and products to review and a lot of tutorials on the way. Some of the items include (but not limited to):

Another Carnival tutorial lovelies! It's a little more than one week away and the excitement is building!! :) Anyway, my cousin wanted me to do a tutorial for her section in Legacy's presentation for 2011 called Mount Te Manga. It's predominantly green, with splashes of orange, a little blue, gold and yellow. I think there are more colors, but i stuck to the basics for simplicity. Hope you enjoy.

NYX Cake Powder - Taupe/Ash Review

I will be honest, when i picked it up i wasn't sure how to use it to get the desired look, but now that i know, i absolutely love it and the finished look is worth the "hassle".

What is it?

Two different shades of powder and a wax which helps brows stay in place. There is also a wand for grooming the brows and a mini angled brush for applying the wax and powder.

My thoughts:

I honestly wasn't sure if i liked this product at first, but i am glad i tried it out a few times. I apply the wax first then mix the two browns, lighter on larger part of brow and the darker side on the "tail" of the brow.

PROS:

1. It is easy to use.

2. It comes in different shades catering for the very dark to very fair complexions (Black/Gray, Dark Brown/Brown, Taupe/Ash, Auburn/Red, Brunette and Blonde)

3. The wax keeps stray hairs in place, perfect for the divas with unruly brows.

5. The two shades of brown makes it easy to get the right mix for the perfect shade.

4. It is inexpensive and available in Wonderful World and Long Circular Mall (Trinidad)

CONS:

1. If you're in a hurry, you might wanna skip this routine.

2. I didn't particularly like the angled brush provided, not small enough. But i got the hang of it eventually.

OVERALL RATING:

4 out of 5

I must say i love the OPI nail polish. It applies so smooth and dries fast. The color i am now wearing is called Kennebunk-port (rich dark glossy red)which is part of OPI's Classic Colors collection.

I applied two coats (even though the color was true with one) and used OPI Sec n' Dry Top coat, which dried the nail polish instantly.

China Glaze Anklets of Amethysts

Hey lovelies! I saw this nail polish in my sister's stash and thought it was sooo gorgeous! This is actually the first time i used any of the China Glaze nail polishes (yes just came out from under that rock lol).
This one is called Anklets of Amethysts from China Glaze's 2006 We Adorn You collection. To describe it in my own words: a satin lilacy rose color with blue, pink and silver reflects :-) Take a look:

Review - Milani Tantastic Baked Face and Body Bronzer

Hi beauties (special welcome to my new followers!) My first review for the year! Yipee!!

Anyway i have been using the Milani Tantastic Baked Bronzer which i bought from Wonderful World for a while now, wanted to give it a good try before i reviewed it and let me just say... i am in love! If you are on a budget and can't afford the high end brands like MAC, pick one of this up!

What is it?
An all over face and body luminous powder bronzer that can be applied both dry and wet for more intensity. I haven't tried it wet as yet since i got the look i wanted when applied dry. Check out more stuff on the website.

The website says:
A baked marble bronzer with multidimensional coverage pays off not only in color,
but in subtle highlights that enhance a natural glow. Infused with Macadamia and Jojoba oils, this product helps keep skin hydrated and soft while providing a healthy bronze glow and silky smooth application.
Available in 3 radiant shades. (Fantastic in Gold, Fantastic in Bronze and Fantastic Sun which is what i have)

Pros:
1. It is relatively affordable. I paid TT$65.00 at Wonderful World.

2. It is sooo pigmented! I over swirled my brush at the first application and was shocked at the color pay off!

3. A lot definitely goes a long way.

4. I got a great bronzed effect when i applied it dry, but applied wet will work for better intensity and it doesn't rub off as easily; this will be beneficial especially for the ladies playing mas.

5. There are 3 different shades catering for any skin tone.

Cons:
I really haven't come up with one as yet! :)

Overall rating: 5 out of 5. Seriously it is that good :)

Girl what did u do to your hair!!??

Hey lovelies! It's been a while since I've given you an update on my hair. Well here it is now: I've given my hair a break from protective styles of my choice (braid, weave) so I'm basically wearing it out, or in a ponytail etc. I have put in a color in it finally! I wish i could tell you what color it is but it's totally mixed up :-).

I'm heading out with the bf tonight and i wanted to try something. So i braided my hair after washing it, using some products...well take a look at the pics...

I blew dry my hair for about fifteen minutes and undid the braids...results:

I wanted the hair to be more "crimped" looking...but it was still damp and i had to take them out faster than i expected... kinda liking the mop top anyway :)

Sugarpill Palette - Burning Heart photo and swatches

Today felt a little bit like Christmas when i finally received my Sugarpill palette. I chose the Burning Heart mainly because of the true red and the very bright yellow in there. So anyway... i will show you what I'm talking about: :-)

The palette.. it is a bit heavy because it's magnetized.

It is properly labelled, with all ingredients and each color is labelled.

AMAs 2010 Fashion Recap

I tuned in to the American Music Awards on Sunday night, and there were some fashion hits and misses i'd like to share with you. The performances were alright... the best that i saw were Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Enrique Iglesias and Jon Bon Jovi. Didn't particularly enjoy Katy Perry's, P. Diddy and Kid Rock just to name a few. I missed a lot of performances like Usher, Neyo and Pink so i cant say which was the best or worst for that matter, so.....

Without any further ado, here are my best dressed/makeup picks:

Jessica Alba's style was sleek, classic and beautiful.

I loved her dress. And her makeup was flawless!

Something about those curls, the makeup and that dress just worked for me.

Mark Brushes - Review

I had one of the Mark brushes (the flat eyeliner brush) and i loved it so much, i decided to try some more. I purchased the following brushes:

1. Eyeshadow Brush - A small, soft fluffy brush
2. Angled Contour Eye Shadow Brush - A big eye shadow brush for contouring corners
3. Eye Liner Brush - A very small fluffy brush, great for applying shadow as eyeliner
4. Blush and Bronzer Brush - A flat topped fluffy brush for precise blush application.

These brushes were very affordable at approximately US7.00 or TT$56.00 per brush. They came individually packaged and very properly labelled. The back of the package had the description for how to use each brush which i thought was a plus.

Here are the pics:

Pros:
1. They're affordable.

2. The brushes are soft and easy to work with.

3. They are individually packaged, making it economically easier for you if you just want one or two.

4. Each brush comes with a "how to use" instruction at the back of the package.

5. The handle of the brush is made of sturdy material and the label will not "wash off" since it is embedded.

Cons:

1. To get these brushes, you may have to order them through an Avon/Mark rep. Not sold in most stores.

2. The contour e/s brush was a bit on the "scratchy" side and it is fairly huge, so this particular brush is not the easiest to work with.

3. This was a con for me: I would have liked them to come in a set since i wanted more than one or two, brush case included.

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5

Mineral Fusion Lengthening Mascara - Review

Honestly, i didn't even know of this brand of cosmetics until my friend, Leola brought this mascara for me to review.

I checked out the website and i must say, a lot of their products impressed me. Anyway, onto the mascara.

The website boasts:

You will have rich, highly defined lashes in the blink of an eye with this luxurious and gentle mascara. (i know short and sweet)

My thoughts:

I always love any mascara that volumizes lashes. This mascara certainly did that for me. I liked the packaging as well, very sleek and luxurious look to it. The bristles on the wand are the conventional type, nothing fancy about it but they are a bit big.
I got a faint smell which reminded me of paint (i know). Other than that, this mascara gives your lashes serious volume. This one i tried is in Graphite (very rich black) and there is one in Rock (brown). I don't believe this is waterproof mascara, since the product itself is very wet and takes a while to dry.

Pros:
1. Eyelashes are volumized! Even after applying one coat. Your invisible eyelashes will be seen.

2. It's mineral based for those of you that prefer mineral makeup.

3. It's relatively cheap at approximately US$14.00

Cons:
1. If you don't like products with scents, you may not like this. The smell i got reminded me of paint.

2. If you're in a rush, don't use this because you will make a mess. The "wet" formula doesn't dry instantly.

3. If you have very short lashes, you may not like these either since the wand is quite big.

3. Probably not sold in drugstores: the website says it is available in Whole Foods Market. Trinidad/Tobago you probably wouldn't get this here at all.

Overall rating: 3 out of 5

HIP L'oreal Duo Eye Shadow - Showy 224 Swatches and Review

These have been out for some time now, so this isn't a new product review. I did pick up one of these babies already in Rascal 936 (a satin grey and pink). Always wanted to get more so i decided to go with Showy 224. I realised i didn't have a navy blue just for my use, so it was a perfect buy!

This duo consists of two very pigmented blues; a chromed teal with silver undertone and the matte dark navy blue.

Pros:
1. It is super pigmented.

2. The color combinations make it simple to create looks.

3. There is a variety to choose from (matte, satin, metallic etc) catering for every one's taste.

4. The shadows are easy to apply and blend once you have the right tools.

Cons:

1. It is expensive (in Trinidad)

2. The little applicator that comes with these are practically useless.

Overall rating: 4 out of 5

Is it wrong to want each and every one of them? I got these at Super Pharm for $57.99 which is pretty costly. The price however varies at different cosmetic counters.

The Business of Makeup

You all know i love doing makeup and i love sharing my views and opinions on everything that has to do with it, but added to that, I also do makeup professionally. This post is not me venting, but to share my experience so hopefully, new and seasoned MUAs may learn from my mistakes.

Over the weekend I was hired to do a job consisting of a bride, the maid of honor and the mother of the bride. This would have initially been a total of $550 for everyone. But the woman asked for a discount for specific reasons. I decided to take it down to $400 which she agreed to (with no enthusiasm). We had this conversation at the beginning of the week, calls were then made later on to confirm the appointment but Mistake #1 I didn't re-confirm the price with her and ensured she made a down payment.

On the day, the makeup was done and the key persons were pleased, while i was doing the last face, i was paid; Mistake #2 I did not check the money until i left.

The next day, i called her to explain what happened thinking perhaps she made a mistake. She went off on me saying she would have never agreed to pay such a high price of $400 to do makeup, and i told her $300 and that's what we agreed to etc. Had i implemented the down payment prior to confirm the booking, it may have prevented this.

I surely learnt my lesson. My bf had some valuable tips as well:

1. Pre-number the receipt book;
2. Pre-number the invoices (either soft copy or hard copy);
3. Figure out how they can make the down payment;
4. Keep proper records.

So tell me, what are some of your methods to ensure things like this don't occur?

Hi guys! So i recently purchased some pigment samples from Haléner Rustique. This young lady finally answered my prayers! She sells them for very reasonable prices! And i can finally get all the "hard to get" cosmetics that i only read about on international blogs! For my first haul, i picked up some pigment samples. She sells MAC pigments, but most of the pigments she mixes herself. They came in little baggies measured at 1/4-1/2 teaspoon for TT$5.00 and in jars for TT$15.00. I thought the amount might be very little, but they are so pigmented, a little goes a long way. The only thing is i would have preferred them in jars.

Apple Candy - Duo chrome pink with orange gold undertone
Pumpkin pie - Golden orange shimmer
Cranberry juice - Duo chrome red with silver undertone
Spiced apple - Rich copper toned

I found there were close similarities between Spiced Pumpkin and Apple Candy also Pumpkin and Pumpkin Pie.

I loved Rustique, Stunnin and Lady in Red. There were similarities in Sassy and Diva Queen

I absolutely loved all the colors, but Into the Forest and Chameleon were my favorites here.

This one is Rocker! Loved this silver!

She even gave me free samples! This is MAC Fuchsia Glitter and MAC Neo Orange

Now i have to tell you my pics do not give these pigments justice. The colors are amazing! I even saw the intensity of the colors in the dry swatches once applied over a good e/s base. However, when you foil them (apply wet), you'd really get the best results!

Hey all! With much thought and indecisiveness, the bf and I finally decided to play mas for Carnival 2011. The band we chose to play in is called Y.U.M.A meaning Young Upwardly Mobile Adults. Their theme was inspired by signs of the Zodiac, their spelling - Zodeak. Even though I'm a Virgo, i really wasn't feeling that costume. The bf wanted to play in Leo since that male section was the best - YUMA's male sections all suck in my opinion - but i didn't like the Leo female section either. So, the unanimous decision was Aquarius. A lovely shade of sky blue adorned with crystallized netting. It's gorgeous, male section? not so gorgeous. Bf rocks for agreeing to go with it! Anyway here are some pics of the costumes.

Hey everybody! I know it's been ages since i put anything on here, i think as a result i lost a considerable amount of "followers"...*a moment of silence*..lol
So.. since I've been away, i had a birthday - 30 years baby! To celebrate it, i threw a party with the help of my loving bf and some super cool friends of mine. It wasn't the bashment (party) i hoped for but all in all i had a blast! Unfortunately i don't have a lot of pics from that night but i will share what i do have. Also, i finally got my lap top!!! YAY!! I still need Internet connection however, so give me a few more weeks and I'm all yours on a regular basis! :)

Urban Decay Primer Potion - Sin

I love me some UDPP! It's still one of the most used and favorite primers throughout the blogosphere so i was glad to jump on that train.

However, after using UDPP in Sin, i was not totally satisfied. I hope i am not disappointing too many people, but i have to be honest. I was asked to review it and of course i was more than happy because hello, it's Urban Decay!

Champagne Shimmer

The website boasts:
This miracle eyeshadow primer is unmatched by any other in the beauty industry! The genie in this bottle fulfills three wishes: eyeshadow that lasts, more vibrant and lasting color, and absolutely NO creasing. Apply Primer Potion to lids before shadow application. It dries down almost instantly (and invisibly), creating smooth lids that are super powered eyeshadow magnets.
The formula is full of silicone, which you beauty mavens know makes for a smooth and silky application. Packaged in a pretty genie bottle, our Potion applies with a magic wand and flocked applicator.
Tips: A little goes a long way! Apply a thin coat and let dry, then apply Eyeshadow as you normally would. Then DARE it to crease. (Double-dog dare it, even!)

My thoughts:
First up, bravo to Urban Decay for finally making the wand bent instead of straight, so now it is designed to get to all the corners of the bottle. The formula is similar to the original UDPP as in it dried almost instantly upon application, and a little did go a long way. What i didn't like about Sin though is the too thick consistency of the primer. I didn't like the champagne-pearly, shimmery effect after blending it as well. I'm guessing that's the look UD was going for. I used the primer with mattes, pigments, shimmery e/s and cream e/s. I found that it worked best with the pigments and the shimmery e/s. However for mattes and any dark shade and the cream e/s, not so good. I found that it changed the look of mattes and dark shades and creasing did take place. To make things worse, i have oily eyelids. i am not sure if that impacted on it. I think I'll stick to Urban Decay's original primer potion.

Pros:
1. Just like the original UDPP, it dries instantly.

2. A little does go a long way!

3. The new wand will ensure that you get more product out of the bottle, no more sawing necessary! :)

4. If you want a shimmery effect after applying e/s, this is the primer for you.

5. Great to use with pigments and/or e/s with shimmer/glitter.

Cons:
1. It doesn't dry invisibly like the original primer potion.

2. For persons with oily lids (like mine), this primer may not work for you because it dries with a pearly shimmer.

3. It changes the look of matte and cream eye shadows as well as dark e/s (making it a tad lighter).

4. It may not work well for darker skinned sisters because of the thick, light formula.

5. There was some creasing on my lids after wearing it over twelve hours.

Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 (because it's UD!) LOL

Too Faced Shadow Insurance review

In a previous post, i talked about all the primers i used so far. That was around the time i discovered Urban Decay Primer Potion. Then i kept hearing about Too Faced Eye Shadow Insurance and i had to try it.

Can we say Primer Heaven???? I fell instantly in love.

This is what Too Faced claims it does:

Your full-coverage insurance policy against all fading creasing melting blurring oil-slicked and hard-to-blend eye shadow accidents. Our silicone-based eyeshadow primer transforms any eye shadow into a perfectly blendable color-drenched intensified version of itself then locks it down perfectly until you take it off. Our skin soothing formula evens out the skin tone on your lids and smoothes out lines while it secures a barrier between the oils of your skin and your makeup so no shadow catastrophes will ever happen again.

My thoughts:

Firstly, i love the packaging. My initial thoughts were "my this is small" but all you need is a tiny bit to get the job done. And the tube makes it easy for you to get just the right amount for application. The formula isn't sticky and it goes on smoothly. It is fast drying so i had to ensure i blended it over my eyelids before it dried. It is silicone-based so when it actually dries, the result is an oil-free, matte surface to apply eye shadows. The sheer finish allows you to use any shade of eyeshadow without changing the color. I had this for a while and i used powder e/s, pigments (even applied wet) and cream eye shadows over it and i did not experience any fading, creasing and even my eye liner stayed in place.

This was taken right after applying e/s at approx. 8:20a.m. (i used colors from my faux MAC palette):

This was taken at approx 1:30 p.m. As you can see, no fading or creasing.

This was taken just before removing my makeup at the end of the day approx. 6.15 p.m.

Need i say more?

Pros:
1. It does work. Colors stay in place (no fading, feathering, migrating, creasing etc)

2. It can be used on any skin tone.

3. It is affordable. Since they are not sold in Trinidad, i had one of my friends get in the US at $18.00.

4. The tube design makes it easy to get just the right amount of product, so there's no wasting. Plus it's easy to cut open (not like the UDPP)

5. If you have oily eye lids, this is a dream come true. It leaves your lids matte and even, oil-free.

Cons:

1. Can we have this in a bigger size? :-)

Well folks, the time has come again for me to give my hair some much needed rest. My option for protective styling were braids previously. I decided to not braid since my hairline suffered some brutality from the back to back braiding.

Therefore, i decided to try a weave for the very first time ever! So tell me, which style should i consider (feel free to recommend brand/type as well).

Revlon Grow Luscious by Fabulash Mascara Review

Hey all!
If you know me, you'll know that i LOVE mascara! Any opportunity to try a new one, I'm there! Today I'm going to talk about Revlon's new mascara, Grow Luscious in Blackest Black.

The website boasts:

-Lash enhancing formula complements the natural growth cycle of your lashes, improving their overall appearance and conditioning with each use
-Get lashes that look instantly longer and lusher and will also grow stronger day after day
-Over sized lash-extending brush
-Ophthalmologist tested

My thoughts:

I had this mascara for a little while but i wanted to try it out for about two weeks before i reviewed it. When i first saw it, i thought it looked "medicated", the packaging isn't the most attractive. I am not sure if my lashes are indeed longer or stronger, maybe I'll have to wear it longer, I'll see. The formula is thick, but not too thick, so when applying if I'm in a rush I'll be in trouble because it will clump. I got my desired fullness with three coats (applied very carefully). The brush is HUGE! So I definitely had to take my time when applying, but it gets every lash and and really gave them some nice volume.

Pros:
1. It's affordable if you're on a budget. I got mine for TT$49.95. It retails in the US for $7.99 and I'm sure you can get them at great sale prices.

2. It's supposed to be "good" for your lashes. (Still have to see it for myself)

3. It's waterproof. Great to use for all nighters, weddings, graduation etc.

4. It volumizes lashes.

5. This is a pro for me: The brush is nice and big which promotes volume and extra plump which is what i look for in my mascara.

Cons:

1. For those with tiny or short lashes, this mascara will be a nuisance because of the big brush.

2. It does make lashes appear longer, but it packs volume rather than lengthening or curling.

3. Not great to use if you're in a hurry because it will clump.

Overall Rating: 3 out of 5

Two FOTDs - Neutral and Color

Hey all, it's been a while since i posted some pics, so i did two different looks for you. I have to apologise again for the quality of the pics, they were taken with my phone.

Ok the first one is my interpretation of a sunset, when i was in Tobago i saw a beautiful sunset and it inspired this look:

I used colors from the 120 palette (Purple, pink, orange and yellow), the blue is MAC Electric Eel pigment (applied wet) and i used the gold from my faux MAC palette.
On lips i used my AVON twist & glide lip gloss in Pink Rose. False eyelashes by Red Cherry C211, for blush i used Revlon's Color stay Finishing Powder.

This is the other FOTD: Neutral with a pop of green:

For this look i used colors from my Sacha Trio e/s in Expresso for the dark brown, coffee color and the gold. And from my faux MAC palette for the pop of green and silvery white color on brow bone. On Eyelashes i used Revlon's Grow Luscious mascara (to be reviewed) and on lips AVON Apricot Shimmer Lipstick.

M.I.A., Excuses, Reasons, Ramblings and a Mini Vacay etc....

Hi all! Yes I'm still alive! I have neglected this blog so bad, it's not even funny. So many reasons/excuses! First up, i don't yet own my own PC or lap top therefore all blogging is done at work. Many times my system doesn't allow me to access my blog because of lack of Internet access, much less do a post... sigh... i will be getting a lap top though, at least by August (my birthday month)! Please i implore you...bear with me. I realised that i lost some followers but i can't be mad, i understand.

To add to my computer/Internet connection woes, my camera crashed or is crashing so the last few posted pics were taken with my blackberry. I'll continue to do that for as long as possible, but a camera is on my birthday wish list *hint hint*

Enough of the damn excuses, i owe you my readers much more than that and i will be back and better than ever!
